Upon arrival in Geno, Serbian fans even before the start of the game began to throw smoke bombs and other items on the football field. Due to these reasons, the players of both teams released on the playing field were forced to return back to locker rooms. Thus, six minutes later from the beginning of the match the game was stopped. The referee asked to approach him a representative of UEFA, two national federations and captains of the teams that played that day. Despite the fact that some believed that the match could still be resumed, the referee declared his decision that the meeting of the teams would be finally discontinued.
