Extruded polystyrene foam is perfect for insulation of the basement, as it does not get wet, accordingly prevents freezing. But the foam is better not to use, since it does not have moisture resistant characteristics. For the inside of the wall, it is better not to use soft insulation, as it can get wet and sag over time.
